Adding A Video In Your WordPress Posts And Pages

Embedding Video In WordPress

The newer versions of WordPress have made embedding videos incredibly easy. Simply copy the video link and paste it directly into your post on its own line.

Should you want to get a bit fancier with things, you can use what is called a ‘shortcode’. This short video shows you exactly how to accomplish your own little bit of internet magic. Embedding video in WordPress is about as easy as anything you’ll ever do on the web.

Note: Uploading a video directly to your website and serving it that way is not a good idea for a number of reasons. Foremost is that it will cause visitors to download the entire file unless you are on a server specifically set up for streaming content. You are much better off uploading it to YouTube or Vimeo and pasting the link to your video inside of your post or page. Using this method, the video will still play on your website, but won’t cause slowdowns, erratic playback, and high server loads as a result.
